Summer heat leads to greater thirst and that becomes a real challenge for those on fluid restricted diet due to chronic kidney disease. Staying cool without having fluids, during summers is only possible by planning a thirst quenching diet with low sodium content. Indulge in flavored ice, sour candies, and frozen foods like lemonade, chilled low sodium soup, frozen grapes, crispy cold vegetables and ice cubes. While mouth becomes dry wash it off with cold water or mouthwash without drinking it and have ice cold kidney friendly fruits between the meals to limit the thirst. Take your medications with mealtime liquids or moist foods like applesauce and keep blood sugar levels under control.
