Sleep apnea is a type of sleep disorder which is related to breathing problems while sleeping. The breathing of the person is interrupted and can cause severe health problem. This can happen several hundreds of times during the duration of sleep when the breathing keeps dropping every now and then. When breathing stops, the various parts of the body including the brain may not be able to receive sufficient amounts of oxygen.
Basically, there are two types of sleep apnea, Obstructive Sleep apnea (OSA) and Central Sleep apnea (CSA). Now, OSA is more common than CSA. It is associated with the blockage of the airway and is related to the collapse of the soft tissues behind the throat, during deep sleep.
