These homemade lotions are prepared from basic ingredients available at home, and most importantly, it is known to you what you are using. It is always good to use organic raw materials so that your skin can get the optimum nourishment without causing any potential side effect. Being hundred percent natural, these homemade body lotions help in maintaining your skin health, and make it soft, smooth and glowing.
Most of the ingredients used are known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antioxidant, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. They also keep the skin hydrated and moisturized, and protects it from the harmful UV rays and sunburn. In this article, we have shared the recipes of some wonderful homemade lotions that can be prepared with natural ingredients without much difficulty.
1. Body Lotion Made From Shea Butter And Essential Oils:
Shea butter is enriched with vitamin A, E as well as F and fatty acids. The SPF 6 in Shea butter helps in protecting the skin from harmful UV rays. It essential nutrients present in it makes it work like a natural moisturizer. It contains cinnamic acid and lupeol cinnamate which are powerful antioxidants that helps in the reduction of acne. It also contains substances and compounds like linolenic and oleic acids which helps in collagen building that firm up the skin and keeps them softer.
4 tbsp Shea butter
2 tbsp coconut/jojoba/almond oil
8-9 drops lavender essential oil
4-5 drops rosemary essential oil
3 drops tea tree essential oil
3 drops carrot seed essential oil
Melt the Shea butter in a saucepan in low flame. Add the second ingredient (coconut/jojoba/almond oil) and turn of the flame and shift it to a jar or bowl. Allow it to cool down. Alternatively, you can also whip the Shea butter instead of melting it and add the oil into it. Now add all the essential oils into the mixture and whip properly to get thick creamy consistency. Shift it to a jar and keep it in normal room temperature. It is important to keep in mind that the mixture should not be mixed too much.
2. Cooling Lotion Made From Coconut And Aloe Vera:
Coconut oil contains saturated fats which are better known as medium chain triglycerides. It works as a skin moisturizer and protects the skin from diseases like eczema and psoriasis. The other ingredient used in the lotion, aloe Vera is known for its medicinal and therapeutic properties. It is quite effective in healing wounds and due to its natural cooling effects, it helps in soothing the skin from any inflammation or irritation. It is also an oil free moisturizer and a natural remedy against sunburn. It helps in removing the signs of aging and reducing acne and various skin diseases.
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup aloe Vera gel
Any essential oil like jasmine/lavender/orange
Whip the coconut oil until it becomes fluffy. Mix essential oil with it, adding a small quantity at a time and finally add in the aloe Vera gel. Your coconut and aloe Vera lotion is ready.
3. Beeswax Body Lotion:
Beeswax is a natural wax produced from genus “Apis” honey bees. It conditions the skin and soothes and calms it. Being organic and non-toxic, it s also safe for the skin. It contains vitamin A which rejuvenates the skin, and also provides protection from any environmental assaults.
1 cup oil of your choice grape seed/coconut/jojoba oil
1/3 cup beeswax
1/2 cup water
1 pinch of borax
A few drops of essential oils like tea tree/lavender/jasmine/lemon. Mix the oil (grape seed/coconut/jojoba oil) with the beeswax. Now bring the water to a boil and add it the borax and let it dissolve completely. When the borax water is still hot add it to the oil, in small quantities at a time and mix it properly with the help of a whisk or hand blender. When it becomes creamy, add the essential oil and mix it properly.
4. Aloe Vera, Shea Butter And Olive Oil Body Lotion:
We have already discussed about the goodness of aloe Vera and Shea butter for the skin. We are going to add another ingredient, olive oil, in preparing this homemade body lotion. Olive oil is a natural skin moisturizer. It soothes the skin and provides relief from irritation and inflammation and works as an age defying component.
2 tbsp Shea butter
2 tbsp body lotion of your choice
3 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp aloe Vera gel
Melt the Shea butter in low flame and shift it to a bowl. Now, add olive oil and aloe Vera gel into it and mix it well. Finish it off by adding in the body lotion. It can store it in the fridge and use it every day. The lotion helps in making your skin soft, smooth, moisturized and glowing.
5. Honey Aloe And Calendula Oil Body Lotion:
This homemade natural moisturizer, especially if you have a dry or sensitive skin. It is ideal for use during the summer and monsoons. Honey is a natural moisturizer and contains anti-inflammatory properties and helps in reducing the chances of any skin infection. Calendula is also full of anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties. However, it is important to remember one thing. This lotion is not suitable for every skin type and it is recommended to test it on one a small part of the skin first.
1 tsp honey
1 tsp aloe Vera juice/gel
4 tsp calendula oil
A few drops of essential oil of your choice like chamomile/lavender/jasmine
Take a bowl and pour all the ingredients into it. Stir properly until all the ingredients blend with each other properly. Now shift the mixture into a jar and keep it in the fridge for further use.
6. Jojoba And Vitamin E Oil Body Lotion:
Jojoba oils ha a waxy texture which helps in locking the moisture. It also works as a protective shield against any external skin infection and disease. Although it moisturizes the skin naturally, it also helps in maintaining oil balance at the same time. Apart from keeping the skin hydrated and moisturized, it is also effective against chapped skin and lips, dry cuticles and cracked heels and dry skin. Along with jojoba oil and vitamin E oil, a small amount of comfrey essential oil and chamomile essential oil are also used while preparing the lotion. Both the oils are anti-inflammatory in nature.
5 tbsp jojoba oil
4 drops comfrey oil
4 drops chamomile oil
4 drops vitamin E oil
The preparation of this body lotion is quite easy. You just have to mix all the ingredients together properly and store it tightly in a container. This lotion can be used every day after shower.
7. Rose Water Body Lotion:
Rose water is ideal for every skin type, be it dry, oily or combination skin. It helps in maintaining the pH balance of the skin and works as a natural moisturizer and skin vitalize. It is anti-inflammatory and antibacterial and has a natural cooling and soothing effect.
1 cup rose water
1 cup body oil of our choice like olive/coconut/avocado oil
4 tbsp beeswax
Mix together the oil and the beeswax until it blends properly. Now add the rose water and stir the mixture properly.
8. Aloe Vera And Green Tea Floral Homemade Lotion:
Green tea has antioxidant and age defying properties. It protects the skin against sun damage, firms up the skin and imparts a healthy glow. It also provides safeguard from the potential damage from free radicals and prevent various skin disorders. This aloe and green tea lotion with floral extracts keeps the skin soft, moist and healthy without making it oily or greasy.
1 tpsp fresh chamomile flowers
1 tbsp fresh calendula flowers
1/2 tbsp green tea
1 cup aloe Vera gel
Shift the aloe Vera gel and all the other ingredients to a sauce pan and put it on the stove on low flame. Allow the mixture to become warm, without bringing it to a boil. Turn off the flame and allow it to become cool. Stain and pour the mixture into a tight jar or container.
9. Honey And Papaya Fresh Lotion:
Papaya is enriched with various essential nutrients that are essential to keep the skin and body healthy. It improves the skin tone, provides moisture and keeps it hydrated, reduces the signs of aging, helps in managing acne, removes blemishes and spots and keeps the skin baby soft. Before preparing this lotion, it is important to note that this lotion is for instant use and cannot be stored or preserved for a longer period.
1/2 cup ripe papaya pieces
1/2 tbsp honey
2 tbsp regular body lotion available in the market.
Put the pieces of ripe papaya into a blender and add a little water. Prepare a thick puree and keep aside. Now add the honey and the lotion into the puree and mix it well. Your papaya lotion is ready for use.
