Lately, eating out frequently and on-the-go eating has become a habit. Packaged and read to eat foods comes with high salt, as preservatives. Most of these come with high salt content. High intake of sodium leads to lot of complications. Wondering how much sodium you eat? Watch for these signs that tell you whether you eat too much sodium.
1. You Feel Thirsty Constantly And Most Frequently:
If you frequently find you feel thirstier, and often your thirst is quite unquenchable, you are eating too much salt. Too much salt draw water from your cells and you always feel thirst. High sodium dehydrates the body and you need a lot of water or liquids to satiate your thirst. However, increased thirst is also a sign of type II diabetes mellitus.
2. You Eyes Are Puffy And You Get Bags Under Eyes:
Face puffiness is the clear sign of excess salt in the body. If you are eating too much salt, to prevent the water getting absorbed, cells try to retain the water, which leads to edema aka swelling. Eye bags and puffiness is the sign of accumulation of water due to excess salt.
However, lack of sleep also leads to puffy eyes and under eye bags.
3. You Lost Your Palate:
Many times you may feel that you don’t like the flavor. You always find food tastes bland and wish for extra flavor. Blame it on excessive salt. The white stuff loses the sensitivity of the taste buds, and you lose your natural palate. You may feel everything appear bland on your mouth unless it is salty food.

4. Increased Frequency Of Headaches:
Headaches aren’t uncommon and literally everyone is prone to headaches. However, if you experience the repeated and frequent episodes of mild to moderate headaches without any solid reason, blame it on what you eat. Overload of salty foods not only leads to dehydration but also induce headache.
5. You Survive On Ready To Eat Foods, Take Away Meals And Processed Foods:
It is very straight and simple here. Salt is the natural preservative. Most of the fast food joints and restaurants are just sodium landmines. Packaged and processed foods, take away foods and ready to cook / eat foods are preserved with food additives and chemicals, which are high in sodium. Apparently, when you live on such foods, your body is laden with sodium. Do not use ready to cook foods and cut down the quantity or frequency of eating processed foods.
6. You Are Bloated:
There is direct relation to high sodium content in the body and bloated. Salt triggers body to retain more water. Too much causes water retention. Naturally, you get bloated due to high sodium. As stated above, in order to maintain fluid content to cope with high level of sodium, body increases thirst.
7. You Have Frequent Visits To The Toilet:
Bet it day or night, workplace or home, if your visits to toilet increase, it can be due to increase in salt foods. Frequent urination is one of the common signs of high sodium content in the body. However, it also relates to type II diabetes.
