1. Garlic

Garlic has both antimicrobial and pain relieving qualities which makes it highly effective for curing ear infection. There are few ways in which you can use garlic.

You Will Need

Raw garlic cloves
Sesame oil
A piece of fine cloth

How To Use:

Take 2 raw garlic cloves and heat them in two tablespoons of sesame oil till they turn black. Strain the oil and with the help of a dropper, put 3-4 drops of this solution in the infected ear two or three times a day. You can also apply raw garlic juice after crushing the garlic and squeezing juice out of it.

Another method of using garlic is to boil the cloves and mash them thoroughly after adding a pinch of salt. Now make a poultice by putting the mashed garlic in a cloth and apply the poultice by placing it against infected ear. The antibiotic as well as analgesic property of garlic will help to relieve pain and infection soon.


2. Salt

The easiest available home remedy for treating ear infection is use of salt. Salt is used to generate heat in the ear for drawing out the fluid that has accumulated in the ear. When the fluid in drained, it relieves the affected person from pain and inflammation.

You Will Need

A cup of salt
A thick sock or a piece of cloth

How To Use:

Take a cup of salt and heat it for 3 to 5 minutes in the microwave or on a stove. Now put heated salt in the cloth or sock and seal it using a rubber band. Now lie down and compress the sock on the affected ear till it is generating heat. Repeat this method 2-3 times a day until there is pain and swelling, to cure ear infection.


3. Basil

The antibiotic property contained in basil can help to cure minor ear infections.

You Will Need:

5-6 Holy basil leaves, or
Holy basil oil
Carrier oil
Cotton ball

How To Use

Extract basil juice by crushing the fresh leaves of basil. Apply this juice using a cotton ball on the infected ear. Alternatively, mix equal amount of basil oil and coconut oil and apply few drops 2-3 times a day to find relief from ear infection.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

For treating fungal infection in the ear, apple cider vinegar is an effective remedy.

You Will Need

Apple Cider Vinegar
Cotton ball
Water or alcohol

How To Use:

Mix equal amount of alcohol or water in 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Dip a cotton ball in this solution and plug in the infected ear, leaving it for 4-5 minutes. Then take out the cotton ball and drain out all the liquid from your ear by lying down on the opposite side. Dry your ear using a hair dryer.

Besides culinary use, onion has medicinal value as well. Onion is a safe and effective remedy for treating ear infection without the need for antibiotics. Overuse of antibiotics can produce drug resistance.

You Will Need

One small brown or yellow onion
Cotton cloth or towel

How To Use:

Chop in half and microwave the onion faced down. When it is bearably cool strain juice out of it and put 2-3 drop of this juice in the ear that is infected. After 4-5 minutes turn your head down to let the liquid drain out of the ear. Repeat this process 2-3 times. You can also make poultice after baking the onion and wrapping it in a cotton cloth.

It should be hot enough so that it won’t burn your ears. Place it over the infected ear till the onion cools down. The fume from the onion enters the ear canal and works as a natural cleanser to unblock it.


6. Olive Oil

Sometimes wax build up in the ear gets infected by bacterial or fugal growth and blocks the Eustachian tubes. This type of blockage can be unblocked by using olive oil.

You Will Need

Cotton tipped swabs

How To Use:

Warm 2-3 spoons of olive oil. With the help of a dropper, put 2-3 drops in the ear. Wait for 5 minutes to let the oil soften the wax. Now using the swabs remove the wax gently from the ear.
