High blood pressure or hypertension is a serious health disorder. It is estimated that a third of all adults suffer from chronic high blood pressure. If left untreated, high blood pressure damages the blood vessels and increases risk of heart problems, stroke or kidney failure.
In addition to medications, dietary changes and exercises, you can bring down your blood pressure level in the normal range with the help of certain home remedies.
1. Beetroot Juice
Beetroot is a common vegetable easily available in your local grocery. 2. Lemon Juice With Honey And Dash Of Cayenne Pepper
Your regular lemonade can help in bringing down your blood pressure level, if prepared in the right way. Drinking lemon juice with honey and a dash of cayenne pepper can protect you from hypertension. Lemon is an excellent source of potassium. By negating the harmful effect of sodium, potassium helps in reducing high blood pressure. The high vitamin C content in the citrus fruit can also help in decreasing high blood pressure. According to studies, honey helps in reducing the systolic blood pressure level and by dilating the blood vessels cayenne pepper provides instant relief from hypertension.
To prepare this home remedy for high blood pressure, you will need the Juice of a lemon, a tablespoon of honey, a pinch of cayenne pepper and a glass of water.
How To Use
Take the aforementioned preparation every morning on empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast.
3. Onion Juice
The key bioactive compound in onion is a flavonoid called quercetin. Studies suggest that quercetin helps in reducing the high blood pressure level by inhibiting production of a compound called angiotensin II that induces constriction of blood vessels. Hence, onion juice is considered an effective home remedy for high blood pressure.
To reduce your blood pressure level naturally you will need about 730mg of quercetin, which you can get from the juice extracted from seven small onions or about 3 ½ cups of chopped onions.
How To Use
To lower your blood pressure level, drink onion juice once or twice a day. To reduce the pungency, consider adding a teaspoon of honey to the juice.
4. Cinnamon And Honey
You can decrease your high blood pressure level by taking cinnamon with honey. Studies have shown that cinnamon helps in decreasing the systolic blood pressure level. 5. Coconut Water
Coconut water is a healthy natural beverage. Due to its high potassium content, it helps in reducing the high blood pressure level by restoring the healthy electrolyte balance in the blood. In a study, researchers have found that regular intake of about ten ounces of coconut water helps in decreasing both the systolic and diastolic pressure in people suffering from hypertension.

7. Almond And Milk
This is delicious home remedy for fighting high blood pressure. Almond paste added to a glass of milk apart from nourishing your body helps in reducing the blood pressure level. Almond is an excellent source of potassium that by improving contraction of the blood vessels and countering the blood pressure boosting effect of sodium helps in normalizing the blood pressure level. Moreover, almond is one of the best dietary sources of magnesium.
Magnesium is a natural calcium channel blocker that prevents hypertension by improving the relaxation capacity of the blood vessels. Studies suggest that milk peptides are also effective in bringing down the blood pressure level. In a study, researchers of Australia’s Monash University found that consumption of sufficient amount of low fat milk diminishes risk of high blood pressure.
You will need a quarter cup of almond and a glass of milk. Blanch the almonds and put them in a food processor to make a paste. Blend the paste with a glass of milk.
How To Use
Take almond paste with milk once a day. This is a high calorie product. Hence, accordingly adjust your diet to meet your recommended daily calorie requirement.
